It is Ubuntu and it belongs in the Linux area. Look thru several topics you will see all the information you want.

Also you cant compared Ubuntu to Vista. They are 2 totally different platform. Vista is from Microsoft and runs many things. Ubuntu is Linux and will only run open source stuff. Can get Wine but it is not fully tested nor fully compatible with all things Widnows.

Ubuntu is useful. But alot of programs that you buy from the store are going to be Windows or Mac based. Although there are quite a few free programs for linux that will serve your needs well but not as easy to find as one for windows. It takes a bit of digging and getting used to the Ubuntu set up.

Ubuntu and Vista are 2 different animals. Most software is developed to work on Windows. If you only use your machine for email and web surfing then Ubuntu is a great option rather than buying windows.

Ubuntu is a great server platform. In my opinion Linux is the way to go for servers.

*nix is the only way to go for servers, solid as a brick an you can just about do anything with it.
An there is more choice out there alot of the time when it comes to software with the exception of games, although it's starting to change.
