Default Unix file permissions questions

Just a few I have been wondering about:
1.)If a user owns a folder in a folder they don't own, can they delete the folder they own? Can they see it if they cd into the folder they don't own? What about files in the same situation (ie they own a file in a folder they don't own).
2.)Does "write" include delete? Is there anyway to give write permissions but not delete ones (without special software)

horndude is on a distinguished road

Default

1.] yes
2.] not sure, write does include delete, but if the file is owned by root but has reg user read/write permissions I think its safe from deletion, easy enough to find that out
