Default Unix does not run on The pc>?

i was told that the unix is not compatible with teh pc? why is that.........before that.........what is different bout the pc and the mac?

unix isnt designed to run on the architectures used for PC's---PC as in personal computer

linux, BSD, and OS X do share the same POSIX standards as unix though

Is that so then why can one run Solaris 10 on a PC architect?

solaris 10 isnt unix, not at least the same unix they use on mainframes anyway, its closer to the BSD's

the BSD's are an open source implementation of berkely unix made for the desktop

linux is a unix implementation which is also open source and made for the desktop, just it uses the GNU toolset and kernel made by Linus Torvalds

neither are unix, they just act like it

No, not really. It's pretty darn close, but it's not UNIX. If it were, SCO would be serving everyone who used BSD, including Apple, most likely.

But Sun Microsystems themselves call their OS a UNIX brand.

Because it's POSIX compliant.

(moving back to the original post, UNIX is not actually compatible with a Mac either)

but variants like the solaris and the others ...hp etc run on a std architecture of the pc?
