Default Ubuntu virtual machine problem

I wanted to set up a virtual machine running Ubuntu on my windows XP computer. I downloaded VMware player and installed it. I downloaded the Ubuntu Iso file and I got this vmx file(attachment). It opens up the first page that lets you install the OS and check the CD for defects and such, but once I choose Install Ubuntu It just gets into a neverending CPU loop. I opened up the Ubuntu.txt document it saves (not the attachment) when closing VMware and it said this thousands of times:
vcpu-0| AIOWIN32: 'ubuntu-7.04-desktop-i386.iso' : Failed to read: Reached the end of the file (38).
I've downloaded the iso twice now, is it still a faulty iso? Is there an error in the vmx file? I posted before on the Windows OS area, but I thought it was the wrong place so I copied and reposted here.
