| Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 Screenshot Tour Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 Screenshot Tour
While it may not be the same as spending 30 days with Ubuntu, Softpedia has a screenshot tour of Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha posted today that is worth checking out. The fourth alpha version of the upcoming Ubuntu 8.10 (codename Intrepid Ibex), which is scheduled for release in late October this year, was made available a few minutes ago and, as usual, we intend to keep you up-to-date with the latest changes in the Ubuntu 8.10 development. |

| Re: Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 Screenshot Tour As mak said it's the same as the previous versions - I would like them to include a dock as a standard desktop feature, or even better just redesign the bloody desktop all together an change the name.

| Re: Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 Screenshot Tour Personally, I think that dock thing is the ugliest thing ever. Trying to make it look like Mac with the dock instead of a taskbar is just odd. You can use shortcuts for program launchers and leave that space for a smaller, more useful taskbar with open window bars. I like eye candy (Compiz) but that only enhances the experience. Taking away the lower bar and replacing it with an enormous icon filled monstrosity...that will either make your windows shorter or it will get covered up, thus relying on alt-tab or win-tab to switch windows.
I'm glad they won't be using that dark brown prototype theme...that thing was ugly! I like the Human theme how it is in 8.04 (with the exception of the boring, outdated Firefox 3 theme, I made a new one that mimics the Strata theme for Windows but with orange icons to match Ubuntu).

| Re: Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 Screenshot Tour I don't have a problem with making Ubuntu look the way i want. I just think the theme could do with a overhaul. Even Windows has done it with its new releases. Granted it has been 6 years between XP and Vista....
I just think a nicer default theme would be nice. One based off of compiz would be good since that can run on almost any hardware. Maybe make it a choice. They can choose to go with that theme and install compiz if their hardware supports it and if not they get this theme.
Jsut some ideas. I mean cant hurt to make it look better right.

| Re: Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4 Screenshot Tour Yeah, it's never bothered me cause of how easily I can change it. But at the same token, it'd be nice if it were changed to something a little more appealing.
But I guess that's something to be said when a Linux distro is the most popular, despite it's crap brown default colors. |
