Default Ubuntu 8.04 in VMWare Workstation

I've installed Ubuntu in VMWare, with the Ubuntu setup in VMWare.
All went fine, Installed VM Tools, never did that before, got some unknowns..

So all "looks" fine, but can't get the internet.

Ifconfig, shows I've connected to my router, get an ip addy, dns info is right, etc. My router log shows I've connected, but I can't connect or ping my router.

So, I'm unsure, but i think it's probably the VMware tools, but I'm not sure how to fix it.
I'm using a 680i board, and I would also like to use my 2nd port for VM MaCHINES.

Can anyone help?

Edit:

Here's what vmware tools did and didn't install

vmmemctl -> no prebuilt
vmhgfs -> no prebuilt
pcnet32 -> used 34820 0
vmxnet -> no prebuilt
vmblock -> No prebuilt

Thanks

Are you sure you have it set up so that the VM can use the host ethernet adapter?

IAssumed so, as my router log shows my Ubuntu machine connected and getting a unique ip of 192.168.1.106.

I'm not too savy with vmware either so its entirely possible it's not. I have both the ethernet ports connected to my router, and both have unique ip's. I originally only had 1 port connected, but it didn't work either.

Any tips on vmware checking it is connected. I left it defaulted as bridged connected.

EDIT

SOLVED...... Using the post on U 7.0X, I went throught checking things, and found the network setup had the wired settings odd. Switched to DHCP setting, and blam, now works.
