| I've installed Ubuntu 7.10 beta version on one of my very old computers. Almost everything runs fine (including, surprisingly, Compiz), but for some reason the sound isn't working. It has an internal sound card that worked perfectly fine with 7.04, but right now I have the volume turned up to maximum with no result. I had a similar problem that was fixed by messing with the settings in "gnome-volume-control", but that seems to do nothing here. Any help would be appreciated. Specs: Intel Pentium 3 @ 450mhz 320mb RAM 40gb HDD GeForce 4 MX440 Soundcard: Aureal Vortex AU8820 ALSA Control Device (PCI) On a side note, the 7.10 beta is running more smoothly than 7.04 ever did, and this is with Compiz enabled on a computer with less than half the resources Vista needs. Linux is amazing (when everything works...). |

| Check the sound properties, my ThinkPad somehow detects two different sound chips (I'm not sure whether it actually has two sound chips or just being weird). I think I may have had a similar problem but fixed it in the sound properties, otherwise, report it to the developers at Ubuntu Forums. |
