Default Tivo - Adding second drive

Wasn't sure where to post this, but seeing as tivo runs on linux, i figured this would be the best place to post it.

I have a 40 hour series 2 tvio and I want to add an 80 gig as a second HDD. From what I understand, it's not as easy as adding a second hard drive to a computer. I dont want to purchase the upgrade kits, i would rather hack it up and just add the second drive.

I am running windows XP on my comp, but I have VMWare so i can run a virtual linux OS to format the drive and install the software if that is the case.

So basically I am wondering if anyone here has done this and what steps I need to take in order to add 80 hours to my tivo without loosing any of the recorded programs or purchasing an upgrade kit. Thanks to any help offered.
