Ubuntu is super easy to install, WAY easier than recovering Windows XP with my Recovery CD's. Pop in the 7.04 Disc, boot up into a desktop, and click Install...how hard can that be? After it's installed:

"grandpa check his email"---Evolution Email client as well as Firefox (since most people have web-based email accounts these days) allow for easy Email access.

"6 year old Sally listen to CD's"---Ubuntu comes with a CD player, and for playing mp3's, you need like one line to install GStreamer plugins or, better yet, VLC Media player.

Compare that to 2 hours worth of "Wait please..." and "Enter your CD key here:", as well as uninstalling the useless junk that HP provides on their recovery CD's. Then you gotta install drivers, which if you don't use recovery CD's (home built PC or you don't have discs), you have to manually install each driver for each hardware component in your PC. That's quite a task! Not to mention the hours more to install your Office, Photoshop, and whatever else you use.

Enlightenment is amazing. I still prefer Windows because I'm used to it and don't have time to switch to Linux.

I prefer Linux and Open source stuff, but I keep XP (desktop), 2000 (laptop), and 95/98 (old comps) around for those apps that don't work on Linux or those that work better on stable ATi drivers in Windows than the buggy fglrx ones.

#8: Linux don't run on a P133 Laptop with 640x480 screen and 16MB RAM (least not with GUI), so I highly question the truth of that.
the main reason Linux doesn't run on old laptops like this is more to do with compatibility than anything else. laptop hardware is mostly proprietary. you may have better luck with the 2.4X kernels as well because some of the older components have been stripped in 2.6. give DeLi Linux a shot. i have an old P133MMX notebook with 48mb of memory that runs DeLi nicely (including an xserver and windows manager like fluxbox or icewm) . DeLi has very low requirements.

I am surprised no-one has mentioned how quite a few mainstream companies are now offering linux for default on there machines e.g. dell will offer ubuntu as default soon.

I use linux/mac/windows xp mce and I prefer linux for day to day mac when I feel creative and windows when gaming or running mce

That must suck to have that many computers to perform that many tasks when you can just have one computer to do it all like the pc for example. :freak:
