Question system not halting and slow ssh

In the last couple of days my linux box (SuSE 9.2) has decided not to power off when it shuts down. It goes through the process killing everything off as normal but then doesn't actually switch the machine off as it used to.

The second problem is when using ssh. It asks for username but then takes a while before prompting for the password, which it never used to do.

I have made no changes to the machine itself although our network has changed somewhat and we no longer have a DNS server but i really cannot see that making any difference.

Anyone have any ideas?

Default

I have fixed the two issues above but something else has come up instead...

I can no longer access the internet from the machine. It is not a problem connecting to the machine from inside or outside the network it is just accessing the internet from the machine doesnt seem to be happening. I can ping everything on my network including the router.
