SuSE 9.1 and speakers

Okay, after months I finally sorted out my sound to work. Question is, what can I do to make my volume switch on my speaker work? I'm getting sound from my speakers, and can adjust the sound on whichever player I use, but can't turn the sound up or down on the speaker itself. I'm thinking that it's something rather simple, but not sure what to do. I have Harmon Kardon JBL Invader 5.1 speakers.

It sounds like something might not be connected with the speakers themselves.

Make sure everything is plugged in properly.

Thank you so much. I fixed it. A couple of plugs on the back of the bass speaker weren't plugged in quite all the way. I knew it would be something very simple.
