Best start to getting more familiar with your linux system: start learning about UNIX and how it works. Get familiar with Bash. Unlike WIndows...in Linux you'll probably find yourself using the Terminal very frequently (even when you're in a GUI). It becomes more efficient to do certain tasks that in Windows take several clicks and possibly scrolling and what not to do. Linux gets addicting. In fact...now that I'm in Windows again for a couple weeks...I'm missing the way Linux is all set up. XTerm really makes you feel much more connected to whatever is going on.
Have fun.

The NTFS support for the kernel is relatively unstable at the moment... I hear there have been reports of losing all their data on the NTFS partition so for now, just stick with FAT...
my hard drive is already NTFS and is 160GB so I can't use FAT on it
There is no emulator for the NTFS filesystems.AFAIK there are ways to enable write access to NTFS, but the consequences are pretty bad. Its better to reformat and convert some drives to Fat32 ,and go with it.

Knoppix comes with some emulators including Wine to run Windows apps although it doesn't work with some - i tried Counter-strike
Wine doesnt run all windows files. Its a buggy version , and its emulation is very slow. Games, no way !
