Default Solaris 10

I just recently got Solaris 10 off the cover disk of APC (i think). i just have a few questions cos ive heard about Solaris in passing but dont know anything specific?

- is solaris any good (stable/compatibility/support?)
- at the end of the yr im gonna wipe my pc and running mainly linux (with windows there but only for games). is solaris better than linux? should i install it instead of linux?
- is solaris more towards the linux end of the scale (not so user frendly, gotta know what ur doing) or the windows side of the scale (wizards do everything for you, computer illiterates can run it).

Solaris is probably pretty solid. I haven't actually used 10 (only older versions), but I personally haven't seen any convincing reason why it would be better than Linux. I'd stick with Linux.

Solaris 10 is rock solid. It is more stable than stable can get. I think my Dad has a Solaris rig running from like 4-5 years back that he hasn't shutdown yet. It is pretty old, but he hasn't need to.

The only thing I would see you having a problem with is hardware support. Solaris is like the BSDs, not very good hardware support. That is why you would bebetter off with Linux.

What is the spex of your rig? Maybe you might be able to run after all.
