It is a little too close to Knoppix for my tastes or needs.

yeah he did a nice job taking what is most likely an existing distro and changing the look of kde, reanming xmms to linamp, and renaming gaim as "slynux messenger". im sure there's more but thats all there was in the screenshots on his website, and there was no other technical info.

On the website, he said that Linux wasn't user friendly enough.

Lucky he didn't use it 7 or 8 years ago...

It's a piece of crap, a copy and paste job with some kiddy scripts attached. Stay away from it, the default user if even root, so you will be very vulnerable to hackers.

i found this trying to find some info on this "distro"

Quote:
Sharat Lakshman contacted me yesterday. While talking to him, he said
he just modified the Knoppix distro to make slynux. He have renamed
lot of other packages also and given new interface.

He never wished, to claim that, he build a new OS (or distro). The
non-techy press reporter understood in that way. Poor boy just wished,
let his work get some publicity. That's all.

It is really good work in one way. That is a 15 year boy could do some
good work using a GNU/Linux distro. He wish other students get inspired
from his work, thus the GNU/Linux usage in schools may improve. (In
Kerala, in many schools, teachers skip the GNU/Linux portion of syllabus
saying that is not much important. This is because, the teachers are
not trained/aware of this OS)

We should give all support to this boy, understand him the concepts of
freedom, so that he can contribute more for the Free Software World.

Regards

so there it is.

That's crazy; it sounds like he screwed up and is trying to cover his butt.

BTW, I sent him an e-mail as I indicated earlier. It wasn't pretty.

and even funnier, a few messages later, the kid comes in and asks for help distributing "his linux" at a lower cost.
