| Sharing Files between Windows and Linux... It seems nobody can tell me how to do this...i'm hoping somebody at this forum knows. How do I share files between my Fedora Core 4 system and my Windows XP system? I am a noob in Linux, so you need to be detailed in explaining to me how to do it.

| Umm, I doubt I know a whole lot more about Linux than you do, but I believe you can use Samba. Here's a link to an online O'Reilly manual for it. http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/samba...k/ch06_01.html

| yeah beedubaya, dual boot or seperate rigs? but basically just check out the links jakec posted. if it is a dual boot you should be able to mount the windows partition as at least read only if its NTFS or read/write if its FAT32. seperate rigs look at samba

| Well, set up samba or NFS. I have myself set up samba and NFS and these works really good. To set up samba you have to configure the /etc/samba/smb.conf file. Samba can be used to other things than file sharing too. NFS is also great and very easy to set up. Check the /etc/exports file to see how to set it up. The windows partitions are mounted or could be quite easily mounted if you have one HDD though.
I would take a some time to explain the options and how to set up samba. Search for "samba howto" in google and you will easily find how to set it up. Check samba.org which is the offical site and has lots of documentation too. Setting up samba is quite easy.

| NFS doesnt work with windows.
If its not dual boot, you can try samba or run an ftp server on one of the boxes.
otherwise if its dual boot the just mount up the windows hd in linux (windows doesnt know linux filesystems) |

| You should be able to get to it using Services for Unix. |

| Just set up samba, sharing files between windows and linux. I have done it myself and also tested it, it works nice. I also tested NFS between windows and linux, i could access the linux files from windows and windows files from linux, but i had dualboot there though on both PCs. Samba is quite easy to set up, but there i a lot of options you can use if you want it more complex.
