Default Segmentation fault

i'm trying to copy some files from one partition to another and in th middle of copying i get a "Segmentation fault"
what do i need to check?

it's on a wd 160 gig hd.
the files are located on hdc3, ext2 and i'm trying to cp them to hdc4, reiserfs

If you get the ultimate boot cd, it comes with memtest86, I think. Or download the mepis livecd, that also comes with memtest. I can find links if you need them.
