Have anyone used Sabayon before? What is your opinion about this distro?

I heard its based on Gentoo, kind of like Ubuntu to Debian.

Before only things I used where Ubuntu, Mint, openSuse. So I only familiar with RPM and DEP file managers and "installers".

What about Portage? I am guessing that what is used in Sabayon, since its based on Gentoo. How easy is it to find packages to install, do updates?
Can I search for software inside Portage, kind of like I did in Ubuntu, openSuse?
Or Portage a bit different?

I have heard about this distro it's meant to be ok for the style conscious but it's not that good at much else other than email and word processing.

If it's anything like gentoo most things will have to be compiled from source, learn to love the make command.
