Default Rh8 upgrade to Fedora Findings

I just upgraded a system from RH8 to Fedora - this system is running only Linux. It is an old box that I use for playing on...
Since many people are looking at trying this, I thought I would post a log of what I've found...

System Details : DONT LAUGH - IT RUNS!!
200Mhz Pentium Pro
64MB of ram
8G HDD.
CDrom drive
Floppy - not installed...
Kingston 10/100 enet card
S3 video card
- thinking about trying an old audio card - some other day...

I downloaded the isos, installed as an upgrade.... HOURS later (*hey is only 200Mhz*) - done.....
Disk drive mapping still the same, old files still there...

Network settings were NOT changed by the upgrade. system still could find the internet...

-Xwindows wouldn't start...
thought maybe we need to update something - like maybe they forgot drivers for old vga cards and fixed it.

Tried to do up2date -uv - got RPM GPG key error...
did apt-get to install updates - worked like a charm - good thing that DSL is working...

still Xwindws wouldnt start - Okay - cannot find command to setupXfree, will hafta edit config file by hand...

tried changing driver to "vga" - still no work - Okay, enuf for today, need some sleep -SLEPT on it -
zzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZ.. ..
thought maybe install old XFree - I still had the updates from the old system and the old install cds... shouldnt be too hard...
LOTS of dependencies... dont want to go thru all that - maybe later... if nothing else works...

looked in Howtos, found that they have S3 driver...
set driver to "S3" - now it works ---- will hafta change something
cause it still aint right - tries to start too many or something, but X starts and I can startup an Xsession from my win2k box with cygwin... will play more later...
Getting error Cannot find or start the base session script when starting Gnome and KDE - starts Gnome failsafe session though...
It makes a copy of your old desktop and creates a new one, puts a link to the old desktop on the new one...

Okay, so X needs some work still - but it works... will get back to it...

SSH still worked - no changes needed

apache wouldnt start
- complained about old version of frontpage extensions
no biggie - they didnt work anyway - took mod_frontpage out
httpd starts fine
- old webpages still there -=
Perl and php scripts working fine..

Samba - not working right- I think that this has to do with password encryption - will look into it...

Old email and calendar still there - cant get evolution to show me anything but months view though - keeps segfaulting...

ANYway - the upgrade worked even on this old box. It wasn't painless. there was no data lost (*which is good, because i didnt backup anything first*)- Some configuration settings got changed... but network still worked...

The box needs more work will get there as I get to it, will post more as I go if anyones interested ...
