Unhappy Retrieving data after Blue Screen of Death

I recently received the Blue Screen of Death. I restarted my computer and I couldn't do a thing, it took about 12 minutes to boot up. It continuously got worse, and now I cannot even boot up. (I am not computer savvy). I CANNOT lose the files on my computer. I was told that I can use UBUNTU to retrieve my files, and then reformat the hard drive.
If I install UBUNTU Live, will I be able to see my files and save them to a disk?
I just need some direction here...help!! I am panicking!
And I can't afford to take it somwhere to see if they can back up the hard drive.

Thanks!
JEN

Ubuntu Live cd requires no installlation. I boots right from the cd and you can recover your files and burn to a disk. Get it here: http://releases.ubuntu.com/6.06/ubun...-live-i386.iso

Knoppix works better for that kind of work

it is a live CD, so you don't install anything as Sevoma said

For more Info on Knoppix Visit:

Enjoy,
