im new to linux.. as in i just installed my first distro... im running PClinux os as i felt it was the best...

can some help me step-by-step on how to set up the internet that would be awesome

cable internet through a router


i use the onboard ethernet card

Open a terminal and run lspci, paste the output here.

Also, paste your /etc/network/interfaces on here and this should be an easy fix. If you don't know what I mean by any of this, just say so and I'll try and simplify it for you.

i cant really copy and paste.. as my linux is on my desktop and im on my laptop

but for the ethernet controller this is what it says (for lspci, all the other ones i know arent ehternet)
00:0e.0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6120/V6121/VT6122 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (rev 11)

for the etc/network/interfaces it says

there is no such file or directory /etc/network/interfaces

i listed etc files and htere is no network directory.. thanks for ur help.. it maybe easier on aim to do this if u dont mind.. if not we can do it over here.. my sn is jwest529

i thought ethernet came supported out of the box so to speak on ubuntu. disregard that hes not using ubuntu lol.

nevermind i got it thanks.. pclinux has a VERY nice wiki and i was able to figure it out
