Default reading SAM file

I'm running Knoppix and I got into my hardrive and into the windows32/config. this is where the SAM file is held. I need to get my password from windows. when i open the SAM file with my text editor its in code. how do i read this? I need to know my password. I'm wondering if Delete everything in the file, would this reset my windows password? I really need this please.
Thank you.

It's not quite that simple. You need something like OphCrack to do a job like that for you.

If you delete or damage the SAM file, you won't be able to boot Windows. The local security authentication server (lsass.exe) process requires it.

OphCrack live CD. Boot from the CD and it will automatically "recover" any passwords stored in the SAM. (that it can crack at least)
