i have the 3 redhat 9 iso discs, i have the cd-rom set as the first boot device in bios but when i start with the first disc in the drive it just skips over it and boots into windows. do i have to make the cd bootable or something, what am i missing? all thats on each of them is the iso.
also ive read about some of u using redhat fedora open source
is this preferable over redhat 9.0?
and i dont want to to install lilo or grub so it will b alright if i just use a linux boot disk when i want boot into linux, rite?
and lastly am i rite on saying knoppix is just something i can burn and pop in it and use linux and get the feel of it before installing or partitioning anything?

yes now i feel like a *******, ive worked with some iso's but they were always for my HDD not trying to make a boot cd with um. how i didnt realize i needed to extract um first i wont kno

i gave up on isobuster and got the free trial of nero so all is good on making the installation discs.

to u RH users, should i get rid of RH 9 and go to Fedora or is there a better distro i should b tryin first. i kno everyone has there own preferences and needs but my first distro i want to b one that isnt going to give me headaches doing alot of the console line commands n stuff til i learn it all, easy to install and compatable alongside of win xp, with a nice interface to it, any recommendations? or should i just stay with RH 9

neversleeps- the isos are put up to eliminate any confusion on the users part. you just dl the isos to your hd, insert a cdr and make a cd from the image. if you have already installed rh9 to the hd just stick w/it.. its fine. i still use it myself for my desktop machine, soon i will install redhat enterprise edition.

Welcome to the wonderful word, neversleeps... I tend to agree that if you have RH9 running, stick with it for now. Once you get a feeling for the OS, you can do some research into distros you might like to try. From personal experience, after debian, rh, suse, slackware etc etc... i use slack on my machines. Do some research, read some books and the right distro will appear. But again, rh aint bad at all.

I agree with lo_tek. You will have to decide on your own which distro you want to use. Redhat is a very good place to start because of its ease of use and good installer. Once you become more expierenced you can fool around with other distros.
