Default Problems with a sound card

Does anybody know why my sound card does not work? I'm using a Gateway MX6448 notebook, and Ubuntu Linux 6.06.1 "Dapper Drake". I've found other MX6448 users with the same problem, but no solution yet.

Please help me! I don't want to have to use Windows again to listen to MP3s.

Default

I'm having a similar problem with kubuntu 6.10 edgy. I've got an MSI main with onboard sound, and the sound works fine sometimes, but usually after a reboot it dies and starts working again after a few days. I also have a turtle beach catalina 7.1 card I have tried, with the same results.
