Default Is this possible? Combining dual booting and virtual machine

I want to make the fullest move I can to linux, but try as I might, I cannot completely sever my ties to Windows because of my gaming habits.

What I want to do, is: I want to have a machine that dual boots Windows and Ubuntu Linux. It will also have a virtual machine program in my linux installation that can open my windows install just inside it's own window, without the need to completely reboot the system.

Is that possible? My friend says he does something similar on a mac... but I'm not sure how to go about this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes you can dual boot Windows and Linux. I do it myself. Yes you can run a VM inside Linux and have that run Widnows. But you wont be able to have it run the Windows you already have installed. You must install Windows inside the VM.

Agreed, dual boot owns VM anyday, you get real performance hits with VM's.
