Default please help, install linux with dual boot

Ok i have also wanted to have a pc with both windows and linux running on it.
My computer specs:
AMD Althlon 64 2.40 Ghz
896 Mb of RAM
ATI xpress 200 series 128 MB
D-Link Wireless G Desktop adapter
Windows XP

Ok i downloaded Knoppix linux 5.0, i ran it off the CD and everything worked fine untill i loaded up mozilla and it could not find the server, thats when i pulled up the wifi manager and when i selected scan for networks, the program stoped responding. I hope it doesn't do that when i install it. I also have a tool for windows called partition manager, which i understand i must use to partition linux some space. Anyway i was hoping someone could list a set of Step by step instructions for me, that would be very nice.

I also have no clue how to install or put on a dual boot.
i hop someone can help me out.
Thank you

alextrzaska,

First off mate Knoppix works well as a live CD as an installed distro it is not that great, very difficult to install. Secondly you would be far better off going and getting another HDD and installing Linux on that as oppose to splitting the one HDD it saves heaps of messing around.

as for a step by step guide, the knoppix documentation is sub-par this is all I could come up with: http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4174

Or you could use the command sudo knoppix-installer just boot the live CD and open a terminal window, to be on the safe side do it as root to enter root mode enter su in the terminal console

My final word on the subject (I promise) this is a quote from the Knoppix website:

ard drive install of Knoppix is not recommended for the new user and one should understand that there are problems associated with a hard drive install of Knoppix, particularly if you try to install more software or update your current software.

if you want to go down the knoppix road with a more advanced distro try Debian http://www.debian.org/

as for other distros try the Linux distro chooser: http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/

hope that helps,

Jake
