Re: paranoid about security! Security on Linux is different than Windoze. Windoze gets viruses if you even touch the machine, and it gets spyware as much as it does legit files. However, Linux is different. Linux cannot execute Windows programs, so any spyware and viruses won't run on your PC, thus making it immune. Also, running software is a privilege, and normal users cannot run edits on certain folders even if they want to, let alone a malicious program. Running in root (which I admittedly do, but I'm not much of a security freak) can leave you more open, but the likelihood of a hacker or virus for Linux is minimal at best.
