There is no "most secure" distro.

YOU have to make it secure.

If you want it to be 'secure out of the box', try OpenBSD, but it's a BSD, not linux.

Go grab Bastille and harden the system yourself if you need it secure.

Security on Linux is different than Windoze. Windoze gets viruses if you even touch the machine, and it gets spyware as much as it does legit files. However, Linux is different. Linux cannot execute Windows programs, so any spyware and viruses won't run on your PC, thus making it immune. Also, running software is a privilege, and normal users cannot run edits on certain folders even if they want to, let alone a malicious program. Running in root (which I admittedly do, but I'm not much of a security freak) can leave you more open, but the likelihood of a hacker or virus for Linux is minimal at best.

I would say that any linux distro out of the box is safer than windows. As CalcProgrammer1 said, most virus/spyware only works in windows. The ones that were made for linux are so few that you shouldn't worry about that.
You should choose the distro that best adapts your needs. I personally use Ubuntu, it's very user friendly and has a very big community. I've heard that PCLinuxOS is also very user friendly but I've never tried it though.

As farinha said, Ubuntu is the best distro (well, in my opinion) because it is very user friendly (especially during the installation process) and has a huge userbase, which means a very supporting community. Ubuntu Forums has the answer to just about anything, so I recommend Ubuntu.
