1 cd-r holds 700MB, most distro's are 2-4 disks

slackware is always my choice, your mileage may vary, thats a personal choice

Yer wot? Most Linuxes need to be installed, like Windows. You can use Knoppix if you want to use it whenever you want, but in order to save things I think you need some kind of installation.

If you're looking for a distro, I also suggest Slackware.

A distro is like packages that people (authors) compile. Like, one distro might just have things for video and audio, while another distro is made for word processing. It all depends on what you want, that's why there are so many disto's (also called distributions).

I suggest downloading Slackware, that will show you what Linux really is.

http://www.mirror.ac.uk/mirror/ftp.s...ware-10.1-iso/

slackware-10.1-install-d1.iso and slackware-10.1-install-d2.iso are what you want.

I believe you can, but I woudnt recommend to someone with zero linux experience, use OS X instead if you can, thats my thought on it anyway

If you insist on linux, you will need a kernel that supports the PPC CPU the mac uses
