Okay, So, I had a ton of old computer parts around. So I threw em into an old computer case (What a coincidence!) And yeah, I dont have Windows 95 or anything.

But my question is, I need a Linux (Or Other OS) That would work pretty well on these specs.

Intel Pentium 2(I think) 500MHZ Processor.
16MB of Ram
2.3 GB HDD.

Am I hopeless?

Oh and by the way, Of course this isnt gonna be a primary computer, Its just for fun and to learn more Linux.

the processor is definitely fast enough..dont think ur gonna find much to do with anything with only 16 megs of ram, definitely not graphical either. for anything at all i'd do at least 64 megs of ram, and for graphical most require at least 128

Turns out I was wrong, Its got a whopping 32MB Of Memory.

yeah you should be able to run Linux/BSD on that you might struggle running windows on that. there are linux distros out there that are designed for older Hardware, here are some personal reccomendations:

With only 32MB of RAM, X11 is going to be painfully slow. I'd recommend an ancient version of Redhat.

Normally, I'd say go w/ Xubuntu for older systems, but with that RAM, I wouldn't recommend it. If it was the same processor & more RAM, it would be worth a shot.

Well, I just found that for christmas, As a gag gift for my brother, he got like 7 sticks of old ram. 32MB to be exact. Which just so happens to be compatible with the computer. Put em in, Checked the BIOS, 64MB.

So, 64MB of RAM, 2.3GB HDD and 500MHZ Intel Processor.

Oh, and I dont want a live CD. I want something that installs like Windows.

They're not live CDs, but I certainly wouldn't say they install like Windows. If you want something that installs like Windows, get ReactOS.

puppy would have issues wiht that little ram for sure. at least until you get into it and do a hdd install with a swap partition.
