Default Optical Drives

I've been looking at optical drives on newegg.com and I noticed that a lot of them say that they are made for Windows. Is there a way to use them in Linux? Is it only the cd that comes with them that can only be used in Windows? Can I use Wine to install them?

Thats just a Marketing technique.
They all work with all OS's, though they have different drivers.
Probably have to check the OS's Website or the manufactures website for linux or unix specific drivers.

Most drives will usually just be detected and working, as long as it is not any special kind of of drive (like blu-ray or something).
