The only real difference between OpenSUSE and SUSE 10 is one is an opensource Version the other one you have to pay to get support.

I don't reccomend SUSE instead try these:

Kubuntu
http://www.kubuntu.org/

Mandriva

PCLinuxOS .92
http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/dist...glish/preview/
ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/distr...glish/preview/

This is the distro I use and recommend, Why because it works right out of the box. No need to configure Everything, everything just works. It also comes as a 1 CD install that is a live CD that you can install later if you wish.

Mephis
http://www.mepis.org/

if you still want some help in deciding the distro, try these Distro choosers:

Hope this Helps,

Jake

You have to use YaST or find RPMs to download or stuff to compile.

SuSE makes it hard to install stuff by default.

Do you want to know how to install things under Ubuntu or under OpenSUSE?

For Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install program
