Default OpenGL not supported

When I start a game or program that requires OpenGL it pops up with a window saying OpenGL not supported then it gives me an option to abort or continue. When you continue the game's video will skip of course because it isnt using OpenGL. I have a new ATI radeon 256MB 9800 pro and SUSE 10.0, i cannot see what is causing this problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this and get my games running smoothly?
