the other problems you will see with your download of SuSE is it is unsupported, and last I knew the downloaded version was a trimmed down version lacking many important libraries and programs. so far as boot/partition magic go, you can use them, as in they both will work with ext2/3, but not reiserfs in the last vesion i used. the better news is that you don't need them. you can resize partitions in linux and then install, in fact most distros with GUI installers will allow you wo resize right in the installer. GRUB is IMO a better boot manager anyway, if you dont have any particular issues with text config files (more flexability is what they really mean
