Default Nvidia drivers?

Ok well i am a first time linux user. i used to have ubuntu on my pentium d rig but it woudnt recgonize my sound card so i am going to put xubuntu on my older p4 rig. and my question is how can i install drivers for the ti4400 agp on to linux without hooking the computer up to the net? i have downloaded the .run file from the nvidia site but have no clue what to do next. so if any ont could help me that woud be greatly appreciated. also dumb down your answers for me please i have never played with linux like this before. thanks

EDIT: connected it to the net and went to download drivers but it gave a 404 drivers not found error. so i dont know how i'l will get them on now. any ideas?

According to the nvidia site you have to run "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.12-pkg1.run", check step 3. Probably you'll have to run it with administration privileges, "sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.12-pkg1.run". I'll recommend to read the README file. Good luck.

yep i saw that last night and tried it but when i put it in it said i needed to enter my password, so i tried but when it gets to that point i cant type any thing. the little green bar is still there but it wont let me type. i even tried to copy and paste the numbers

That's because it's running. Open the System Monitor and check if there is the process you are trying to run.

When you're entering a password into the terminal it usually doesn't look like anything's happening, but you just gotta type it anyway and hit enter.
