Default Noob installing question

How do you install programs like beryl, xmms. Also how do you get audio and video codecs?

What distro are you using, My guess would be Ubuntu maybe? I'd just go though synaptic and search for the package from there hit Mark for installation> right click then hit "update" or "install" or somthing like that can't remember exactly

However specific instructions are as follows

Beryl
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Co...r/Beryl/Feisty

XXMS
From command line (as root try this command
sudo apt-get install xmms

audio and video codecs
From memory you will need to install the LIBDVDCSS2 package and the Win32 Codecs package these can be installed using the synaptic package manager mentioned above

Cheers

Jake

Just google it man, it's a lot quicker than waiting for a reply from someone.

If you want easy desktop effects (and your computer supports it), get Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) and install your graphics drivers (fglrx for radeons, nvidia-glx for geforce, or open source drivers for supported cards). Then right click, Change Desktop Background, click the Effects tab, and turn on the effects.
