| Newb Techie | Ok... let it be known that I am officially the world's biggest newbie to both Linux AND this forum. I've tried Knoppix, DSL, and even a full install of Red Hat er.... i think it was 7.0 or 8.0. One of the two. Anyway... all three versions of Linux, I got absolutely NO sound on. It's not like I have some sort of extravagant foreign sound card, I'm using the integrated sound on the motherboard that came with the emachines PC i use (something like nforce or something... as i said, total newb). Anybody got any clue as to what I could/should do to fix it? Much appreciated! |

| Ultra Techie | what distro are you currently using? if alsaconf doesn't work then you'll have to download and install the latest version of alsa. if alsaconf still doesn't detect your onboard sound, check out alsa.com and see what you have to modprobe. i had the same problem with my mobo's sound. i eventually ended up getting a pci sound card and it worked fine. |
