ya, goto mandrake or mandriva's website and look for tutorials, from what I understand mandrake has pretty good help. ive never used t myself
bascially you will need to know:
graphics card type and memory capacity
monitor refresh rate ranges
color depth you want
full screen or no boundaries for windows
it should when all else fails work with some pretty generic settings and svga selected as graphics card type, but not always, linux can be pretty finicky about its X settings
