I'd reccomend A couple

Kubuntu
http://www.kubuntu.org/

Ubuntu
http://www.ubuntulinux.org/download/

I wouldn't use the offical Mandiva site, instead I would use this

http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=29
or
www.planetmirror.com

Please remember to download from A mirror close to you

ok for one, do you have your BIOS set to boot off cds first thats y most of the time it wont. normally in the BIOS it will say HDD0,CD,floppy. Change it to the CD,Hdd0,Floppy. It will boot the cd know if it doesnt work like that then you burned it wrong.

Just to chip in my humbe opinion, SuSE 9.3 is pretty good. It also does alot of complicated work for you.

You have to boot linux from the CD when the computer starts like Dark Sniper said...

At startup, alternate pressing F1, F2, and Delete. One of these keys should get you into BIOS.

Also, look on the first screen for a line that says "Press <key> for Setup". Press that key, and you will be in setup.

Now, you need to look for boot settings, which in my BIOS is in Advanced settings. Set the CDROM to first boot device, hit F10 to save the changes, and the computer will boot off the CD.

There should be a key somewhere on the page of keys to change values.
