Default Need help with VLC

I cant get VLC to compile. I've tried twice, once following someones guide and it still didn't work. I need to compile it so I can have mp3 transcoding support, which they can't legally include in the binaries. So pretty much if anyone can get it to compile, that would be sweet if you could send me a .deb. I'm using Ubuntu, not sure if that matters.

If I try to use it after installing a binary I get this:
Code:
[00000349] ffmpeg encoder error: cannot find encoder MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3
[00000286] stream_out_transcode private error: cannot find encoder
[00000286] stream_out_transcode private error: cannot create audio chain
[00000347] main packetizer error: cannot create packetizer output (mpga)
Thanks.

EDIT: Nevermind, I don't need it. It's not worth the hassle.

Yeah, but thats not what I was trying to do. VLC allows you to transcode audio on the fly as it streams it.
