saltynay is right, there are better and easier to use flavors of Linux out there. Ubuntu is your best bet. But the Gnome interface has nothing to do with the package managers on the OS. apt-get is the command for Aptitude manager and can only be found on certain distros, like Ubuntu.

Anyway if you want to figure this out to change directory you do:

cd <insert directory here>
So if it's on your desktop you would probably do:

cd Desktop

RPM and APT are two separate things, the desktop environment has nothing to do with it.

disillusion, I think you helped me get it. thanks... I think that's what saltynay was trying to tell me right off the bat. I'm going to go check to make sure it' out there
