MythTV general questions

I was wondering does MythTV work with a tv tuner card? Also does it have a good parental control? And is it ACTUAL live tv? or just recorded?

The whole point of MythTV is to work with a TV Tuner, it's like a DVR. So yes, actual live TV and recordings.

Ah thanks! Well i tried installing myth tv yesterday actually, i download backend frontend and a bunch of other applications and plugins from synaptic. Unfortunately whenever my started mythtv the sql database never loaded properly or something. Why is this?

Also is mythtv supposed to startup before you log into your account?

Ah i feel like i almost got mythtv running. I got my tv tuner card to be recognized, i did a full channel scan but still, my frontend couldn't connect to the backend. Saying my ip address was wrong. What am i missing? I've gone through all the steps hm.

are you certain the backend is running? as i recall the error message you are probably referring to is actually something like "could not connect to master backend, check the ip address, is it running?". by default on most installs i don't think mythbackend will start itself.

Ubuntu Feisty is the easiest install i have ever done of MythTV, on my room pc i basically just apt-get installed it and it took care of just about everything. of course then it took me days to sort out lirc but i digress

Well usually after configuring the backend, i close, then it asks me to fill the database so i click "ok". It fills the database i open frontend and still same error. It is something wrong with my settings?

Also how come mythtv runs before i log into gutsy? It says like "logging into myth tv" then the settings come up. "chose language then database, name, password" why is this? And is there a way to stop it?

Also i changed the ip's in the general settings for backend. Now when i click "watch tv"it goes blank for a second then comes back to the main menu. What am i missing here? I'm so close i can feel it

HA! i got the tv to work with the tv tuner card.

I put my external IP for both ip slots. Terminal>mythtvbackend (keep it open)

Then open frontend click watch tv and BOOM!

I'm still working a few bugs though. The video is a little slow. Seems like its dubbed lol kinda funny. And when i close mythtv the audio is still playing lol

If anyone knows how to fix this would be appreciated!
