Question MS user wanting to convert to Linux

Everyone has seen the youtube video of Beryl, right?

YouTube - My Ubuntu Beryl Matrix 3D Desktop

for anyone who hasn't WATCH IT.
It's amazing.

I have a few questions about running linux on a new build computer. This new computer will be built in the next 2 years, so new questions will of course be risen, but this will satiate me for now..

My future build.
Wish list details
minus the R600 videocard (Whenever it actually releases.)

Ok here are my questions:

1) I hear Linux Beryl is only for AMD/ATI, is this true? (My parts are of course whatever the best there are at the given time. (2 years))
2) Will I be able to play most games out there? Including old ones? I know there alot of emus.
(Games like, Day of the Tentacle, SCUMMvm games, and will I be able to play online with DX games?)
3) I hear linux takes half the processing as ms windows, is this true?
4) Will I be able to connect with someone running windows? (LAN)
5)Does hamachi work?
6)Will I need to know any programming? I'm really confused about this one. I know its really customizable..but is it as customizable as you make it? (Do I have to actually write the coding to perform certain actions?)
7)What are the Cons Linux vs. windows. Pros?

I know there are probably 10000000 threads JUST like this, but I really prefer current forum opinion, if thats no problem with guys. I'm REALLY interested in moving onto Beryl in about 2, maybe 1 1/2 years. Beryl seems 100x better than windows from what I see, but I know there are 100 things I don't know that I should.

THANKS ALOT!

edit::

What I've learned from reading threads so far..
Pros: Small amount of viruses, Fast, less of a hog of resources.
Cons: Compatibility, User Friendliness.

1. False. The AMD v. Intel myth when it comes to Beryl is absolutely false, however, it is true that Beryl has less issues with ATI cards as opposed to nVidia cards.

2. Gaming and Linux do not match at the moment, for the most part. You can try to use Wine/Cedega (NO, these are NOT emulators), but if you can confidently classify yourself as a gamer, you probably don't want to keep Windows around in order to game.

3. Yes and no. Some things run slower than Windows - however, compared to XP, it can run much faster on older hardware, or if you have a custom kernel (NO, I do not recommend trying right off the bat.)

4. Yes.

5. Yes.

6. No - but you need to be very, very familiar with your hardware. And very, very patient.

7. Pros - free, potentially speedy, customizable, stable, and I could go on.
Cons - potentially steep learning curve for Windows users, lack of good gaming support.

One more thing - don't headrush into Beryl right away for three reasons. One, it's not very stable at the moment - there are a good deal of issues with it, and for me at least, it just serves as eye candy - nothing more, really. Two, you want to get a little experience under your belt with the more common parts of Linux before you go jumping right into setting up eye candy.
Three, and perhaps most importantly, Beryl will cease to exist here soon - it is to merge with Compiz, a similar project, which is likely to be a lot better.

Really? I always thought that it was the other way around

Oh, and SCUMMvm works under Linux - ScummVM :: Downloads

It sure doesn't work well on my ATi Radeon X1600Pro...if they mean it works on old Radeons, that's what I've heard, but new Radeons are awful for Linux.
