my mp3 files cannot be heard at ubuntu 7.10 gutsy running on amd turion64 k8.. mp3 files cannot be heard at ubuntu 7.10 gutsy running on amd turion64 k8..i have tried smplayer too but nothing has changed.
device info:SB450 HDA Audio of ATI technologies..
any help is greatly appreciated..

Did you install the GStreamer codecs? Install them and also try VLC Media Player. Have you checked volume control, wave volume, etc?

i installed the gstreamer but there's no sign of progress.. i tried vlc too but no avail..

am not so sure if my hardware is correctly driven by the software i've installed.
if i tried rhythmbox, smplayer, xmms, vlc, gstreamer it has no sound.
by the way, my wireless network has not been enabled also.but to isolate things, i would like to finish this problem first regarding sound.
novice in the field of linux..but i want to try and to learn more of these..

Well are you sure it has sound drivers installed?
