Default Moving Linux

If you install Linux on one computer and move it onto a different one will it work?

If I install Linux on a hard drive on one computer and then take that hard drive and put it into another computer, will it work?

It should. Unless you do something wrong.

it really depends on how much of the same hardware is in both, e.g. mobos/video/sound, etc. it would be the same thing as moving a hd with XP and putting it into a completely different system.

linux is pretty good at doing a hardware scan and check and it should.... run, can't guarantee 100% compatibility with the change of hardware.

I really don't know...last time I tried, I got a kernel panic...

EDIT: And the hardware was very similar too, almost identical in fact.

It can mess with the kernel configuration I would think. Especially if you installed your own kernel and modified it. Things won't work, Kernel errors (like macdude said) etc.

Do you think it is safer with Windows?

The reason I'm doing this is here:

Does anyone know if what I'm asking here will help with this?

Thanks
