While installing Mandrake 8.1, i had to configure my network card, my network card is a D-Link DFE-530 TX.

I came up with the screen which said
Configure networking
a number of options were listed, but none was a D-Link DFE 530 TX.

it then said "which net driver should i try?" , i hit cancel but it kept going in a loop.

I tried the VIA VT86C100A Rhine -II,3043 Rhine-I but it did not work.
it has again gone into the loop

just go with the latest version of Mandrake. You'll be better off.

i tried to download 9.2, got an ADSL link, but it said each of those cd s would take over 24 hours to download.

i dotn know about 10, that would be really difficult to download.

mandrake 10 is touted as the newest, with all the bells and whistles.
is it worth it?

yes. a new kernel, some nice bug fixes. worth it. go on ebay and get it. you'll pay $5 shipped and will have it in a week. then you don't have to d/l it.
