Default LiveCD and Monitor don't play nice

I have a Samsung 206BW monitor, and for some reason when I try to boot into an Ubuntu 7.10 LiveCD, the monitor switches between digital and analog signal, can't find one, and gives up. I've tried using both DVI and VGA (with DVI adapter) cables, with no luck. Any suggestions?

Have you tried the safe graphics mode?
