Default Linux and Windows on the same PC

How would I go about installing Linux on a pc that already has windows and data on it so that I could chose which OS to use upon bootup? please help

You'd need to install Linux into another partition on the same or another hard drive. You'd have to create the partition during the Linux install.

As for dual booting, the Linux installer will install a bootloader that will prompt you for a choice every time your computer comes up.

it tells you you how to install Ubuntu Linux as a dual boot (Both Widows and Linux on the same HDD), even if you don't choose Ubuntu as your Linux distro it will give you a general Idea of how a dual boot works
