The only linux I have tried is slax and didn't really find it easy to use and when listening to music the sound is a little fuzzier than windows and some videos played without picture. this doesn't happen in Debian and Ubuntu does it?

Not for me. My sound is as good as it's gonna get with an integrated sound card, and almost any video will play fine as long as the correct codecs are installed.

I had 5 partitions. XP on drive C:, the others were blank. I installed ubuntu and it added a boot menu that allowed me to pick which OS to boot.
