I was considering installing Linux on one of my two very old Apples, but I don't know any that would work on that slow of a machine. I'm not looking for anything fancy - a very very basic GUI would be nice, but not necessary.

Computer 1 - Centris 610
Computer 2 (I think) - Quadra 800

The Centris only has a 3 1/2 inch floppy drive, but the Quadra has a CD drive also. And considering their 20 and 33mhz processor, I was planning on just using it for basic text editing and the like (maybe original Doom if I can find a copy somewhere).

Any advice? If nothing will work, that's fine - they're sitting up in the attic right now, and they can stay up there for quite awhile if necessary.

From a google search it looks like the Quadra uses a m68k processor. The Centris might as well.

you'll have to check those links out yourself, see which ones/s you like. IMO a debian install would be the way to go

Command line is about all you'll be able to do with them - I can tell you from experience that not even Flux will run well on them.

I highly suggest downloading a set of System 7.5.3 floppies and installing that instead. You'll be a lot more productive.

Best thing that'll run on that is The OS that was made for it

I bet you could get an old, cheap copy of OS7 or 8, or whatevertheheck that thing uses, on eBay.
