Default Linux problems

I just installed mandriva and i get a weird problem when it loads up. It loads up fine and i can get into gnome. The problem is that its unstable and i get weird artifacting (dont really know how to describe it). I get little lines a few pixels long all over the screen. When i move a window, it gets all screwed up. After like a minute or two it freezes. Is there anything i can do to make it more stable. Specs are in sig.

Default

video card kernel modules are wrong

if thats nvidia goto nvidia's website and download the proper ones and follow the directions for installation..........you will need to do this in a terminal while NOT in X

if thats an ATI card your probably out of luck, but check ATI's website anyway
