Default Linux NooB needs help

Ok, here is the situation. I installed Fedora Core 5 i386 on my machine. Everything works fine except for 2 things. While surfing the internet using firefox my computer freezes. It happens while i am scrolling up and down using the scroll wheel on my mouse but it once happened even while I was using the scroll bar. Doesnt happen right away but rather after 2-3 mins of surfing. What can I do to resolve this issue?
Secondly, it takes a while for my pages to load. The download speed is really good but the page loading time is high for a 3.0 Meg connection.I know it has something to do with my network settings.

My installation is upto date. Any help will be appreciated.

1. Do you have the internet problem with other browsers?
2. Are you using the copy of FF provided with FC? If so, try using a copy from mozilla.com/firefox
